A book can’t be judged by its cover. But it is not the same for the comic books fans. They decide the comic book by its cover. Fans judge what inside by looking at the beauty and awesomeness of the comic book cover. Art in the comic book covers its specialized entertainment factor. The comic books fans love catchy covers with colorful meanings. The cover designing gives a basic idea about the content of the book. In the history of comic books covers, most of them are delivering the message of the book without relieving the content of it.

 History of comic book covers  

There was not much art in past comic book covers. There were considered a secondary form of art. But in the 20th century, comic books turned into a large mass medium. It started to grow in popularity. Simple comic books became graphic novels. Because of the popularity, it became, the comic books cover designing became an essential part in comic books. The comic books gender also got expanded. So with the expansion of the gender, it became necessary to create creative and attractive comic book covers. They became more amazing and eye-catching. It became a stunning piece of art.

Motion in comic book covers  

Comic books fans love an adventurous feeling. They grab the book by looking at motions on the cover. On a comic book cover, we can see characters performs all kind of motion activities. Such as jumping, running or flying, etc. Even though images are a statistic, still those motions can be clearly seen. This gives readers an action and adventurous feeling even before they read the book.

Comic books covers arts in a different era. 

Golden Age 

In the golden age comics, books were printed in booklet form. They had basic images on the covers. The cartoons were simple on the cover and the inside the book

Silver Age  

The cover designs had images to represent a strange world. Because the comics had started to introduce cosmic heroes. They had put artworks like surrealism to represent the strange world and heroes in those worlds.  The cover image had started to become an artistic work at this age. Not like cheap images in the golden age. Publishers started to put themes on the cover, not cheap photos. Also, artists began to use “pop art movement.” They started to use product labels and magazine ads on the comic book cover.

Bronze Age 

Cover designs started to have urban landscape. Cover designs had more depth and lightning.  It became to have a more cinematic look.

Present  

Now the cover designs have more excellent images. We can see 3D printed images on comic book covers. The covers are more colorful than before. Also, the cover themes are more mysterious than previous ages.
